DILI, 01 feberuary 2024 (TATOLI) – Two thousand tons of imported rice from Cambodia has arrived in Timor-Leste and will be stored at the warehouse of the National Logistics Center to anticipate famine in the future.
The representative of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Aníbal Carvalho Martins, said that said that another 2,000 tons will arrive in the near future.
In 2022, the governments of Timor-Leste and Cambodia signed a memorandum of understanding to import rice from Cambodia.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Filipus Nino Pereira, said that this is a good sign to build and strengthen trade cooperation with Cambodia.
CLN Executive Director, Gervásio Cardoso, said that CLN will ensure that the rice will be stored safely to respond to any emergency situation.
