The Launch of e-Payment for Customs Clearance through the P24 Platform

Tuesday, June 25, 2024

The Customs Authority officially launched the e-payment system through the P24 platform on June 24, 2024. The launch was attended by HE Minister of Finance Mrs. Santina Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank Mr. Helder Lopes, Deputy Governor Mrs. Sara Lobo, HE Vice-Minister for ASEAN Affairs Mrs. Milena Rangel, the UN Resident Coordinator, members of the diplomatic corps, Vice President of CCI-TL Mrs. Claricia Lay, development partners, customs brokers, traders, and other government agencies. The e-payment system is one of the many initiatives delivered by the Customs Authority through the National Single Window Project. Traders will no longer need stamps and signatures as payments will be sent via the P24 ATM to the ASYCUDA system. The benefits of e-payment include saving money, eliminating unnecessary movements, saving time, and being paperless.

The P24 platform is hosted by the Central Bank to enhance transparency, security, and smooth cross-border trade. This e-payment system is interoperable with international standards, shortens customs clearance times, and aligns with WTO and ASEAN requirements. The current 9th constitutional government promotes the digital economy, with more projects underway such as e-payment in supermarkets, ATM tapping systems, and payment via phone. A tax e-payment project is also underway, with a need to synchronize the banking and tax payment systems. The current 9th constitutional government thanks all development partners for providing various technical assistance to the Customs Authority, with special thanks to UNCTAD for supporting the establishment of the e-payment system for customs clearance.

The steps for making an e-payment are as follows:

  • Get an Assessment from ASYCUDA World.

  • Visit a P24 ATM.

  • Insert ATM Card and enter PIN.

  • Select "Service Payment" (Pagamento Alfandega).

  • Enter the Assessment Reference Number.

  • Enter the amount to pay as on the assessment.

  • Confirm payment and wait for the receipt.
