STL, July 5, 2024

Timor-Leste’s government through its Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday has approved a resolution that required a contribution of US$200,000 to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The financial contribution is part of Timor-Leste’s progress to joining ASEAN.

“The draft resolution for the financial contribution was presented by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for ASEAN Milena Maria Da Costa Rangel and the Council of Ministers approved the resolution,” a statement from the Council of Ministers revealed.

Last year, after being admitted in principle as 11th member of ASEAN, Timor-Leste approved a contribution of US$100,000 to the ASEAN secretariat and another US$100,000 for humanitarian assistance and disaster management in ASEAN.

During the Council of Ministers meeting, the Vice Minister for ASEAN Affairs updated the Council on the progress in achieving the roadmap to become a full member of ASEAN.
