The Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) considers Timor-Leste's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) a significant step towards developing its economic sector.

Executive Director of the Integrated Framework (EIF) Rationakar Adhikari said that Timor-Leste's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) is a positive step towards economic development in the country.

Adhikari expressed his pleasure at meeting Vice Prime Minister Francisco Kalbuadi Lay again, following their encounter at the WTO Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi. He congratulated the Vice Prime Minister for leading Timor-Leste's successful accession to the WTO, as well as for ratifying the WTO Package and the fisheries subsidies agreement.
"The future agenda goes beyond market access, export growth, and investment increases. We must seize this opportunity to facilitate the private sector and other stakeholders in leveraging the benefits offered by WTO membership," Adhikari told journalists on July 18, 2024.
He added that the Vice Prime Minister will travel to Geneva to attend the General Council meeting on July 22, where he will outline Timor-Leste's accession agenda and discuss the necessary support for this transition.
Timor-Leste's WTO membership will create significant opportunities for economic development in the country.
"Your accession provides a remarkable opportunity for the entire nation. We are proud to welcome Timor-Leste to the WTO family and look forward to working together to create a mutually beneficial situation," Adhikari emphasized.
Adhikari also reiterated EIF's commitment to supporting Timor-Leste in achieving economic growth and prosperity for its people.
Vice Prime Minister Francisco Kalbuadi Lay expressed gratitude for EIF's support and aims to enhance cooperation to improve the capacity and services of Timor-Leste's public sector within the WTO framework.
