His Excellency, the Vice Minister of Trade and Industry (MCI), Mr. Augusto Júnior Trindade, met with the representative of Timor-Aid, Ms. Ceo Lopes, at the Vice Minister’s Office in Mandarin Fomento, Dili.

The meeting aimed at presenting Timor-Aid’s plan for promoting Tais to the MCI. The organization’s representative highlighted the importance of a partnership between both entities to strengthen the visibility of Tais, Timor-Leste’s traditional fabric, recognized as a cultural heritage of the country.

Ms. Ceo Lopes explained that Timor-Aid has been collaborating with the “Sorunain” cooperative group, composed of artisans who produce Tais, and expressed the organization’s desire to work together with the MCI to expand its promotion.

"We came to discuss with the MCI ways of collaborating to promote Tais, especially through fairs organized by the Ministry, both at national and international events, to showcase to the world that Timor-Leste has a unique cultural identity," stated the Timor-Aid representative.

During the meeting, Timor-Aid also recommended better coordination in future fairs organized by the MCI to ensure the inclusion of products made by artisans supported by the organization.

Vice Minister Mr. Augusto Júnior Trindade expressed his gratitude to Timor-Aid for supporting the “Sorunain” artisans, emphasizing that promoting Tais within the country is a responsibility of the MCI.

"We take note of the suggestions presented. The promotion of local products is a commitment of the MCI, and for that, we need to work together with producers, ensuring that Tais is valued as a cultural symbol of Timor-Leste," stated the Vice Minister.

The government official also recognized that Tais is a cultural heritage of Timor-Leste. Therefore, he underscored the importance of collaboration among all parties, especially Timor-Aid, to promote and preserve this traditional identity both nationally and internationally.
