Ambassador Maria Anne Wants to Further Strengthen

Timor-Leste-Philippine Relations

This Monday, Minister Nino Pereira received a courtesy visit from Philippine Ambassador Maria Anne A. Padua at the office of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, discussing bilateral cooperation in the economic sector and to further strengthen Timor-Leste's relations with the Philippine.

 "This courtesy visit is intended to further strengthen the good relations between Timor-Leste and the Philippine, which we know, that during this time Timor-Leste and Philippine have strong relations both in the political and economic areas, including in other sectors such as education." Said Minister Nino Pereira after meeting with the Ambassador in his office, Bebora, Dili.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs have visited the Philippine and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political and economic cooperation.  Therefore, Ambassador Maria Anne A. Padua's visit is to realize an agreement between the two countries in the area of ​​economy.

 "We discuss initiatives how we can better develop our Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Also to see the technical aspect in the area of ​​trade. We think that this is important, so that we can realize or take action on the memorandum that has been signed.  [Timor-Leste], especially Trade and Industry, to also get support from the Philippine government."  Minister Nino Pereira said.

Minister Nino Pereira also thanked the Philippine State for its consistency and support for Timor-Leste in the ASEAN accession process.

 "Technically we also see how to prepare our human resources. When we go to ASEAN we are also prepared. We have also asked the Ambassador, if there is an opportunity, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry can get technical assistance, to support our services related to ASEAN." Minister concluded.
