VMCI Participates in HLTF-EI Meeting in Malaysia

His Excellency, the Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Augusto Júnior Trindade, led the Timor-Leste delegation at the 47th Meeting of the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Economic Integration (HLTF-EI), held in Desaru, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on February 24-25, 2025.
The meeting was attended by delegations from the 10 ASEAN Member States, as well as Timor-Leste, in its capacity as an observer.
During the meeting, the ASEAN Economic Ministry gathered to discuss the Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) under Malaysia’s chairmanship, aiming to boost regional economic integration by promoting inclusion, sustainability, and digital commerce.
Prior to the HLTF-EI, the Working Group for the Post-2025 ASEAN Economic Community (WG-AEC) met on February 22-23 to finalize the ASEAN Economic Community Strategic Plan for 2026-2030. Additionally, the Preparatory Ceremony of the Senior Economic Officials (Prep-SEOM) for the 31st ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat, scheduled for February 26-27, was also held.
ASEAN, founded on August 8, 1967, is currently composed of 10 Southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Meanwhile, the process for Timor-Leste’s full membership remains ongoing.
The Timorese delegation at the HLTF-EI meeting was led by the Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry and his team, accompanied by the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Malaysia, as well as officials from the ASEAN Directorate-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC).
