On Tuesday, the team from Guangzhou East Long Invest Group, China, in partnership with Suhurama Developer Unip Lda, met with His Excellency, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Nino Pereira, at his office to present their plan to establish a factory in Timor-Leste.

“There are many investments coming from China. This demonstrates their contribution to economic diversification and job creation. Our young people will have job opportunities and can earn an income,” stated Minister Nino Pereira after the meeting.

The Minister also highlighted that the policy of the IX Constitutional Government aims to promote an inclusive economy, where all citizens feel part of the country’s development.

“We need foreign investments. Timor-Leste must become an attractive destination for investors. It can become a hub for processing and exporting products. To this day, the country still does not have a favorable trade balance, as it relies heavily on imports,” emphasized the Minister.

He also encouraged local companies to establish connections and partnerships with foreign investors to create factories that could boost national production and generate jobs for Timorese workers.

These Chinese investors have shown great interest in investing in Timor-Leste, given the country’s strong and positive bilateral relations with China.

Minister Nino Pereira stressed that the relationship between Timor-Leste and China has been strengthened through the efforts of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, Ministers, and the Chinese Ambassador, underscoring the importance of mutual cooperation.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Guangzhou East Long Invest Group and Suhurama Developer Unip Lda.
